OT Security Consultant

OT Security Consultant

OT Security Consultant

About the Job

As an OT Security Consultant at Shieldworkz, you will play a critical role in securing industrial environments across energy, manufacturing, oil & gas, transportation, and other critical infrastructure sectors. Working closely with OT engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and client stakeholders, you will assess, design, and implement security solutions that protect industrial control systems (ICS), SCADA, and IIoT environments from evolving cyber threats. This role offers hands-on exposure to real-world industrial cybersecurity challenges while contributing to high-impact projects for global clients.

Role Description

As an OT Security Consultant, you’ll be responsible for:

Assess & Analyze: Conduct comprehensive OT/ICS security assessments, risk analyses, and gap assessments (against standards like IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82) to identify vulnerabilities in industrial environments.

Architect Solutions: Design and recommend secure OT network architectures, focusing on the Purdue Model, network segmentation, Industrial DMZs, and secure remote access strategies.

Implement Controls: Support the deployment of OT cybersecurity controls, ensuring they align with major frameworks (NERC CIP, ISO 27001) without disrupting production uptime.

Bridge the Gap: Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure security measures enhance, rather than hinder, operational safety and process reliability.

Develop Strategy: Assist in the creation of OT security policies, governance procedures, and ICS-specific incident response playbooks.

Manage Risk: Lead vulnerability management efforts, threat modeling, and risk mitigation strategies for legacy ICS and modern IIoT systems.

Communicate Impact: Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable business intelligence for both technical engineering teams and non-technical executive stakeholders.

Stay Ahead: Continuously monitor emerging OT threats, ransomware trends, and attack vectors (utilizing MITRE ATT&CK for ICS) to keep client defenses resilient.

Ideal Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience: 1–5 years of experience in OT/ICS cybersecurity, industrial networking, or critical infrastructure protection (prior consulting experience is a strong plus).

Technical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of Industrial Control Systems (PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMIs) and industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, PROFINET, etc.).

Framework Familiarity: Working knowledge of key OT security standards and frameworks, specifically IEC 62443, NERC CIP, NIST SP 800-82, and the MITRE ATT&CK for ICS matrix.

Soft Skills: Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate the cultural differences between IT and OT teams.

Work Style: Ability to operate independently in a remote or hybrid environment while effectively managing timelines across multiple client engagements.

Mindset: A proactive, safety-first mindset with a genuine passion for industrial cybersecurity and continuous professional development.
